From International Championships to Local Festivities: A Vibrant Half-Year of Achievements and Events

The new year of the Dragon is upon us. With each new year, come new beginnings and challenges. Let’s us all look ahead to a new and better year 2024.

In the dancing circles, there is an urgent need for the different stakeholders – who are managing short-term pressures against medium and long-term uncertainties - after all the political, economic and social disruptions of recent times, to collaborate and cooperate.

The pandemic has afforded us the necessary opportunity to expand how we think about dance training and allowed us to chip away at the industry’s wall of exclusivity. How the Dance World has changed?

As we enter into the second quarter of 2020, we are faced with massive global economic challenges, the coronavirus Covid-19, and ever-changing political issues. It must be something to do with the year of the Rat. After all, it is no coincidence that the previous cycle of the Rat, twelve years ago in 2008 witnessed the global financial meltdown then. This time it seems like a triple whammy.

Another year has passed and a new decade is now upon us. The year 2019 has been another exciting and eventful year for Malaysia Ballroom Dance Council (“MBDC”). We hope 2020 is a year of greater hope and excitement.

Five years have since passed in what seems like the blink of an eye. Malaysia Ballroom Dance Council (“MBDC”) is five years old. During this short period, MBDC has in fact been a positive transformative force in the Malaysian Ballroom and Dancesport scene.

The annual Malaysia Open Dance Championship or the Malaysia Open was successfully held on Sunday, 18 November 2018 at the One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Against all odds, the Malaysia Open has firmly placed Malaysia on the world map of Ballroom Dancing and Dancesport, come every November.

Merdeka Celebration 2018. Organised Competitions : Kuala Lumpur Open Dance Championship, Dancespiration Open, Johor Open Dance Championship, Perak International Dance Championship, Negeri Sembilan International Dance Championship.

MBDC proudly won Malaysia International Business Awards 2017, Dance Tourism Icon of The Year 2017.

Dance to Celebrate Merdeka on 30th August 2017. Organised Competitions : Kuala Lumpur Dancesport Championship 2017, Perak International Dancesport Championship 2017.

Freedom is a ‘state of mind’ which is absolutely crucial in the dance fraternity, particularly in dance competitions as Dancesport is not only a competitive sporting activity but also a very beautiful Performing Art form which should be enjoyed without undue interference or being dictated by any parties.

The launching of MBDC in early 2015 was a major step in the transformation of the dancing fraternity in Malaysia.
